No Hassles, is the new album from Tosca being released 28 April. I discovered this while visiting Properly Chilled. More on this site later (in another post). Samples of this new work from the Viennese soundscape masters are playing in the background as I write you my friends. I am happy to report - I like what I hear.

Tony Momo, are you a sucker for chill, downbeat, acid Jazz, trip hop…this sort of thing? Why, yes. Yes, I am. My first steps toward a realization of this new found genre began with two Tosca discs…Opera and Suzuki back in 2000 / 2001. I was going over to Europe on a fairly regular basis and need some new music to fly with Why not fly with the Viennese? I love that word.

These discs were my constant companion. I picked up Opera first and fell in love with the funky, yet sparse, largely experimental work. It represented a departure from any music I had been previously exposed to. I could go on a musical journey that felt immediately comfortable, bold and exciting - all at the same while. Although I would classify Tosca as primarily mellow, there is a positive feel to their work. No musical funeral durge to wallow in. The “No Hassles” samples reinforce this uplifting feel.

For those bands that have gained my respect (and hard earned Momo dollars) I hope they grow in a direction we can both enjoy. As our tastes evolve… so too do the artist(s). Dorfmeister and Huber over the years have pulled together a unique and lasting style. As different as Opera and Suzuki are, they maintain a characteristic sound. I have been surprised by people reviewing these albums…loving one and hating the other. What?!?!?

In comparision, the now classic K&D Sessions from 1998 have always left me feeling slightly disjointed (and somewhat beaten up)…the flow of these sessions…is hardly what I would call a flow…and perhaps it was not meant to flow Momo. BTW, Momo, the K in the K&D sessions is for Kruder not Rupert Huber of Tosca fame. For the Tosca works they DO flow and provide a moodscape some might describe as a soundtrack to a sunset or other dramatic event.

As I have listened to these samples over and over again whilest preparing this post, I made my way over to Amazon to preorder. One offer on Amazon includes live tracks too. This is the one I am picking up!

Tony Momo - Dreamscapes are not just for the sleeping!

Sorry, I have made no mention of the Tosca work “Dehli 9″…I have not had the pleasure.
