General Fuzz: A Mellow Journey
-
General Fuzz read the Shh-Momo post on Properly Chilled and invited Momo to his site for a taste of his homegrown efforts. Why not. That is the kind of guy Momo is! This is an impressive body of work. The site. The music. The culture. Wow!
The Site
This is where first impressions can be an inviting experience or not. I found it welcoming. Upon entering one is awash in a tasteful white with a colorful bubble-like theme drifting above site selection headings (or multi-colored darting lines depending how long you stay). Nice! We can immediately find out who the General is and what he is all about. My favorite bits are:
- General Fuzz’s (Jimmy Ks) music itself. Dreamy and full of energy all at the same while.
- Links - Suggested artists in electronic music by creative commonality or other admired artists.
- Lessons - This is a wide open view to Jimmy’s inner self. There is no whining here just observations, frustrations, insecurities, celebrations…the human thing. I REALLY like this.
The Music
The General describes the music as “lush melodic instrumental electronica.” Accurate. I would add mellow, peaceful, tranquil and serene. Hey, General Fuzz loves good naps. He invites us to download any or all of his music for free. The latest offering is Soulful Filling.
Soulful Filling
Echoes, a nationally syndicated radio show on NPR, ranked Soulful Filling #12 on their 25 essential CDs for 2008. It was also ranked #9 on their 2008 listener poll.
This is not some wannabe attempting to pawn off a bad dream brain burp to the masses. The General is a class act. The Press section provides a better assessment of the music than I ever could. In my experience, words are an inadequate means of describing music. So, Momo why are you trying? Alas, it is all I have to offer. Go to the General and give this a listen. Please make sure you plug into the lesson section.
Tony Momo - I love the passionate!
