Fear Not Art and Music, it brings peace.
-
There is often a struggle between Science and Art. We are confronted with a decision at budget time in our school systems and communities at large. Art is often the loser when it comes to money choice. I was struck by an article I came upon in Wicked Local Havard titled Behind Our Stone Walls: Music brings peace and harmony to our world. In finishing his address to the music students at Boston Conservatory, Paulnack says, “I expect you not only to master music; I expect you to save the planet. If there is a future wave of wellness on this planet, of harmony, of peace, of an end to war, of mutual understanding, of equality, of fairness, I don’t expect it will come from a government, a military force or a corporation. I no longer even expect it to come from the religions of the world, which together seem to have brought us as much war as they have peace. It there is a future of peace for humankind, if there is to be an understanding of how these invisible, internal things should fit together, I expect it will come from the artists.” These are indeed dark times (wars, financial crisis, etc). I understand how silly the quote above may seem when we apply our practical lense to the big picture. I think we can all agree that there is so much that we don’t really understand on so many levels. Do artists have an insight into the unknown that the rest of us don’t? Tony Momo - Anyone hungry? Serve it up, food for thought.
