Music Blogs: Forbes Says…

I pulled this lame quote from Forbes:

scream1-copyMuch of what’s peddled for download on the Internet’s hundreds of music-oriented blogs isn’t authorized by the artists or their labels.

It’s not just the Billboard hits, either. From hip-hop to holiday music, Caribbean to French pop, the blogosphere boasts an unparalleled cache of free music for the taking. (Caveat emptor, of course.) Too many music blogs, though, are nothing more than receptacles for the music and many are not updated regularly. Or they peddle the same script as MTVNews.com (which hasn’t updated its own blog in two years). The best of the lot serve up sharp reviews, witty repartee, an active and vocal audience, and yes, access to the kind of exclusive, sometimes illegal music and mixes unavailable at the Virgin Megastore. — Lea Goldman

Wow! Lea there is so much said here and yet so little.

    • When one is taking and not paying…how does Caveat Emptor come into this? Beware of what? No money changed hands here.
    • If someone does not update a blog…So what…how quickly will you leave and go elsewhere? A New York Minute comes to mind.
    • Why not talk up the positive regarding Music Blogs right up front? For example, the value to both the artists and fan base alike. “…sharp reviews, witty repartee, an active and vocal audience…music and mixes unavailable in the Virgin Megastore” Excellent! Sign me up! Why does that look so much like a “Oh, BTW”?
